Cocoa Tops The Antioxidant Charts

Darker Chocolate = More Antioxidants

Chocolate's many benefits make it a perfect part of a balanced diet.
“An ounce a day goes a long way!”

Chocolate and Antioxidants

· Cacao is high in antioxidant polyphonols which fight free radicals that damage body tissue. Per ounce, chocolate has more antioxidants than fruits, vegetables, tea or wine. In fact, 1.5 oz of dark chocolate has as much antioxidants as 5 oz. of red wine. (Cornell University). We have not had our bars analyzed because research shows that all chocolate contains antioxidants - so indulge to your health!

· Higher cacao content means higher antioxidants. Dark chocolate has twice the antioxidants of milk chocolate. Try our 87% Eclipse bars or our 74% New Moon or Xocolatl - the darkest in our line. Cacao powder has almost twice the antioxidants of dark chocolate. (Ag. Research Service). You can also try our nibs - 100% pure cacao bean pieces.

A recent study found that natural cacao powder - which we use in our products - has more antioxidants than alkalized or Dutched varieties.

· Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) measures total antioxidants. Chocolate has the highest ORAC levels per 100 grams (US Dept of Ag/American Chem Society).
