Frederick's Notebook – April 2006

Like you, we're dedicated to doing what we can to live more lightly on the planet, sharinng the surplus with our producer partners and community, and spreading this spirit through positive ways. We'd like to share a list of some things we do at Dagoba. Please try these at home, and share your ideas for other steps we can take.

Sourcing & Product Quality

All products are Certified Organic and rainforest grown.

We source under direct, equitable terms to maintain economic, cultural and environmental sustainability. These elements are interdependent and only by supporting all of them can any one flourish.

We value quality - so sustainability will be rewarding and have lasting support.

Green Energy

We buy renewable energy credits to offset 100% of the energy at our Ashland facility. Annually, this saves 126 tons of CO2, and equates to planting 52.2 trees, keeping 25.2 cars off the road and not driving 275,580 miles.

The EPA granted us a Green Power Partner award in 2005, and has named us to their "Green Power Leadership Club."

Reduce, Reuse...then Recycle

Our labels & brochures are printed on New Leaf recycled stock. We use 100% Post-consumer recycled office paper (New Leaf).

We keep customers and our community updated paper-free with electronic newsletters, sales brochures and a press kit.

We've "delamped" or decommissioned inefficient tube lighting in several office spaces, opting for desk lamps with compact fluorescent bulbs.

We have an on-site compost and are adding rainwater barrels to nurture our growing collection of drought-tolerant perennial herbs and flowers.

Our break rooms are stocked with reusable cups, plates and utensils.

We refill ink jet cartridges so we can reuse each one 3-4 times.

We reuse scratch paper in our fax and printers as much as possible.

We make recycling easy with bins near trash cans in each area.

We realize this is just a start so please do share your ideas for sustainability and look for them in an upcoming newsletter.
