One for All Cacao Project beneficiary from the cacao growing community of San Juan de Cheni, Peru

Behind every DAGOBA Organic Chocolate Bar is a woman transforming her community.

Our Vision

We believe in the future of cacao communities. And we believe in women.

While women play an integral role in cocoa production worldwide, women who farm cacao are at greater risk of being undervalued and underrepresented in the cocoa value chain. By investing in women and increasing their economic opportunities as farmers, leaders and entrepreneurs, we recognize their unique potential to transform communities for the better and ensure the future of cocoa farming for generations to come.

Our Mission & Approach

DAGOBA Organic Chocolate established the One for All Cacao Project in 2016. The mission of the One for All Cacao Project is to strengthen cacao communities by advancing the role of women in cocoa production and entrepreneurship in regions where cacao for DAGOBA Organic Chocolate is grown. We hope to shine a light on the unique challenges and opportunities that cacao communities face, and help strengthen the valuable role of women in these communities. We are committed to empowering community members to identify and prioritize opportunities and challenges, and jointly develop customized, sustainable plans of action to address them.

Our Work in Action

The One for All Cacao Project is currently working with the small cocoa-growing community of San Juan de Cheni, Perú. This village, located about 14 hours by car from Lima, across the Andes mountains and within the lush jungles of the Selva Central region of Perú, has grown certified organic, Rainforest Alliance-certified cacao for DAGOBA Organic Chocolate products since 2009. The small growers’ association in this community is comprised nearly 30% women.

We are currently exploring partnerships with organizations in Latin America with expertise in community and economic development and gender inclusion as we implement this initiative. We look forward to keeping you informed of our activities as this work continues in the months to come. If you would like to recommend any potential partners or would like to share your perspective, we invite you to get in touch with us through our Facebook page.

Future Work

DAGOBA Organic Chocolate plans to continue support of the One for All Cacao Project with an annual contribution in years to come. As support for the One for All Cacao Project grows, we look forward to partnering with additional cocoa communities around the world to advance the role of women.

One for All Cacao Project funds are administered by the New Venture Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to supporting innovative and effective public interest projects. The One for All Cacao Project is guided by an advisory board with expertise in a range of issues including cocoa sustainability, economic development, gender inclusion, and strategic philanthropy.

Please join us in supporting cocoa communities and strengthening the role of women in cacao production.
